Share Your Holiday
ABC13’s 44th annual Share Your Holidays Food Drive is an event benefiting Houston Food Bank and the neighbors we serve.
From Dec 2-Dec 7, 10am-7pm, neighbors can call to reserve a special holiday food box. The community can also show their holiday spirit by donating in a Red Barrel or texting SYH2024 to 71777.

Staying Involved in Your Community
Houston Food Bank’s Government Relations team works with elected officials to support positive food and economic policies. As a community member, you can join in on the work at various levels:
City-Level
The city handles essential services like utilities, sanitation & public transportation.
Engage with City Council by contacting your representative or speaking at City Council meetings.
County-Level
The County impacts public health, safety, and infrastructure – such as health & social services and community programs.
Engage with county commissioners by speaking at Commissioners Court.
Community-Level
Community-level advocacy is possible through Super-neighborhood meetings or by getting plugged into local non-profits.

Health Coverage in the Marketplace
Open Enrollment is November 1st through January 15th. Houston Food Bank’s Certified Health Navigators are newly available to help you find affordable health coverage in the Marketplace by working with you to:
- Compare health plans
- Understand your benefit options
- Select the health plan that best meets your needs

Community Cookbook
Are you a home chef who loves to cook? Perhaps you’re famous for your mouth-watering mac and cheese or tamales at holiday gatherings. We want to hear from you!
The Nutrition Education & Health Promotion Team is creating a new Community Cookbook. We’re collecting delicious and culturally rich recipes to share with our entire community. We’d love for you to contribute by submitting your favorite recipes. Click this link to submit your recipes and be a part of this exciting project.

Apple and Cheddar Cheese Whole Wheat Quesadilla
Ingredients
- - 1 whole wheat tortilla
- - 1/4 cup cheddar cheese
- - 4-5 thinly sliced Granny Smith apple
- - 1 whole wheat tortilla
- - 1/4 cup cheddar cheese
- - 4-5 thinly sliced Granny Smith apple
Instructions
- Sprinkle 2 Tbsps. cheddar cheese over 1/2 of the tortilla.
- Arrange apple slices barely overlapping on top of cheese.
- Sprinkle 2 Tbsps. of cheese over apple slices.
- Fold tortilla in half.
- Place quesadilla in skillet over medium-high heat.
- Gently flip once, until cheese is melted and tortilla is golden brown. (2-3 min per side)
