Healthy meals served year-round along with nutrition and health education, to kids in after school and summer meal programs throughout the Houston area.
“The Houston Food Bank for some of our children is a life line. We have a real opportunity to make an impact that will follow a child for the rest of their life. To see a child that was hopless go from not having any hope at all to being full of hope, full of joy, full of love and to grow is directly related to the food they receive from the Food Bank.”
The Houston Food Bank’s Kids Cafe program is a collaboration of chefs, dietitians, students and volunteers. The mission of the Kids Cafe Program is to help alleviate child hunger by providing children with nutritious meals at times when other resources are not available, such as after school, on the weekends and during the summer. Kids Cafe Programs provide free meals and snacks to low-income children through a variety of existing community locations where children congregate such as Boys and Girls Clubs, churches or public schools.

For some kids in southeast Texas who participate in free or reduced-price breakfast and lunch programs during the school year, summer means one thing: hunger. The Houston Food Bank works each summer to serve lunch for any child age 18 and under at locations all around the Houston area. Most locations also serve breakfast and/or an afternoon snack.
Kids don’t have to be enrolled in school or a program to get a meal. No ID is required.
All meals include fruit, vegetables, grains and a good source of protein, comfort foods that are very nutritious.
