The annual International Deli Dairy and Bakery Association (IDDBA) Food Show – the largest industry show for the deli, dairy, bakery, and food service trades – was held in Houston on June 8 to June 11, 2024. This year, the show was completely sold out and showcased over 850 companies and hosted 10,000 attendees. To reduce waste and give back to the local community, the event organizers GES worked with Houston Food Bank team to organize a group of 70 volunteers to conduct the food show rescue. With the support of our Sourcing, Transportation, Warehouse, Distribution, and Partner Services teams, as well as our partner food banks – East Texas Food Bank, Southeast Texas Food Bank, and Montgomery County Food Bank, Houston Food Bank was able to rescue 13.5 truckloads of various types of deli, dairy and bakery products. This came out to 103,397 lbs, the equivalent of 86,164 meals. A huge THANK YOU goes out to IDDBA, George R. Brown Convention Center, Houston First Corporation and GES. Their help was crucial in ensuring these highly perishable products were distributed to thousands of our neighbors in Southeast Texas.
