Help us help our neighbors, feed the hungry and fight food insecurity

“Can you help us help our neighbors?”

That simple phrase began what has become one of the largest food drives benefiting The Houston Food Bank. 38 years ago, we were amazed at how many people came by the station to donate non-perishable food. And even more amazed at how many people kept coming back. Believe me, no one was more surprised than the folk at ABC13 at the pure love and generosity neighbors have shown neighbors. I’m not sure how much we collected in those early years, but we hit a record $34K worth of food donated in 1998. And that blew our minds!

Little did we know, your generosity knew no bounds. Last year, we collected enough donations to serve 1.5M meals! By giving so little, you can help so much. The face of hunger is all around us. It is in our schools, churches and communities. Families who don’t have enough food to serve dinner, people who go to work every day but can’t afford to buy food. Everyone can look into their pantry and pocketbooks and consider donating. Everything we collect goes to the Houston Food Bank. From there, the resources are shared with area pantries. People in need receive food immediately. We’ve grown with our city and have modernized how we ask, but we still ask. We know how important it is to share and we ask all of you to consider and Share Your Holidays.
