Ivan
When Ivan moved to the U.S. from Venezuela a couple years ago, he had big dreams of starting his own business and living the American dream.
But within a year, he was diagnosed with cancer, which made it difficult for him to work, but he’s not giving up. He says, “I’m doing my best not to allow my illness or disability keep me from reaching my goals and not just for me but for being able to help others.”
Ivan looks forward to the future and hopes to be an inspiration for others. He adds, “Something that brings me joy is seeing other people smile and seeing other people be happy.”
Ivan’s dedication is inspiring, and his gratitude shines through his smile. This is his second visit to Bethel’s Heavenly Hands, one of Houston Food Bank’s dedicated community partners, and he only has great things to share.
“I love coming here,” he says. “The people are very attentive and kind, and they are very organized. I’m so grateful for the help that I get here. My favorite things that I get here are the vegetables, fruits and the meats. It’s all very helpful … it helps me stay nourished.”
Heavenly Hands is not just supportive — it’s life-changing, and possibly life-saving, for Ivan. He knows that this support is made possible by Houston Food Bank’s caring supporters.
“Thank you so much to the people who make this possible,” he says. “They’re not only helping provide happiness for humans, but filling their souls with goodness. May God bless you for everything you’re doing.”
