Houston Food Bank Expansion Project
Houston Food Bank serves more than 800,000 individuals experiencing food insecurity in our 18-county service area. We also work with 1,600 distribution partners to provide 140 million meals annually. With more than 90,000 volunteers annually, we serve as a model for volunteer engagement.
Despite our success, hunger continues to increase. From surveying our neighbors, we found food insecurity isn’t about food. It is about income.
To make an ever greater impact and to address the root causes of hunger and food insecurity, Houston Food Bank is building a second location at TX-249 and Ella Blvd. This has been made possible by Chevron, whose generous donation of 52 acres will allow us to serve Heather Glen, Acres Home, Greenspoint and surrounding neighborhoods.
This new facility will be a one-stop destination for the community to easily access a variety of services and build meaningful connections. It will offer access to nutritious food and resources that will help families build on their strengths, including:
- Education partners to support ongoing child and adult education
- Health and wellness partners to support healthy lifestyles and access to care
- Housing, financial, and job support to connect community members to resources for economic mobility
- Exercise and child-friendly amenities to provide a space for whole-family active living
Our new facility will:
Our vision and plan go beyond distributing more food. Our second facility will champion personal achievement and the success of our neighbors.
