Supporting the Community

The Local Food Purchase Assistance Program (LFPA) offers a new opportunity for Houston Food Bank to work with local farmers and producers, like Shamba Ya Amani. LFPA is a USDA program focused on helping organizations, like food banks, purchase more local food from small farmers and producers.

Established in 2020 by the Women’s Empowerment Group of @famhouston3576, Shamba Ya Amani is a farm run by resettled refugees, immigrants, and local Houstonians. In the summer of 2022, they have expanded to sell some of the produce at market. You can learn more about Shamba Ya Amani at famhoustontx.org/shamba-ya-amani.
