Stories of food insecurity

Sylvia

Sylvia is an amazing woman trying to do right for her dad.

After her mom died, Sylvia took her father in so she could take care of him, which unfortunately created a strain on her finances. And since Sylvia is currently unemployed, it’s been a struggle.

“Sometimes we don’t have food,” she says. “It’s so expensive, and it’s hard to pay my bills.”

Sylvia is grateful for a nearby Food Bank community partner, where she can get the nutritious food that she and her dad need.

“Without this place,” she says, “I guess I’d be in really bad shape; you know?”

Sylvia and her dad are among the approximately 1 million people in southeast Texas who are food insecure. The Food Bank works with a network of more than 1,600 community partners — including the pantry Sylvia visits — to help address that.

Sylvia wants you to know that she appreciates your consistent support.

“It’s helping us,” she says, “and helping other people too.”
