Stories of Hunger

Caring for Houston

Josephine

Josephine is trying to raise her six grandchildren. Without your help, she simply wouldn’t have enough food to care for them all.

Josephine and her husband are at an age where they should be considering retirement and settling down. Instead, they are struggling to care for their grandchildren who live with them. In her words, Josephine shares why your help is so important to her family…

”I’ve been coming to the food pantry for about two years, off and on. We first came after my husband lost his job. And now that he’s working, he still doesn’t make enough to pay bills. I don’t work because I take care of the kids.

I have custody of three of my grandchildren, and three more are living with me because their mommas are not stable.

The Houston Food Bank helps a lot. We struggle. It’s hard on my family and my grandkids. But thanks to you, my kids get to eat. That means everything. Thank you very much, and I hope you keep on giving because it does really come in handy and helps us a lot. I know my grandchildren appreciate you, too.”

Because of your heartfelt kindness, families who struggle to keep food on the table have a source of support when things are tough. Thank you for caring about your neighbors in need, and for giving generously to ensure that people of all ages can get the food they need to survive.
