Starbucks Hunger Relief

Houston Food Bank is grateful to partner with Starbucks and Feeding America. Starbucks is helping to alleviate hunger by funding essential equipment as well as direct food distribution related costs.

Seeing a need and knowing Starbucks could provide a solution, Starbucks partners (employees) advocated for a program that would allow stores to donate unsold food and distribute it to people facing hunger in communities across the U.S. In response to this call for action, working with Feeding America®, Starbucks invested in research and quality assurance testing to develop the FoodShare program to safely donate nourishing, ready-to-eat meals to people who face hunger.

Each April, partners around the world plan and lead service projects, donating tens of thousands of hours to their communities. This April marks the fourteenth consecutive year of Starbucks’ support for Global Month of Good.

During their volunteer shifts, a few Starbucks partners shared their thoughts on giving back at Houston Food Bank. David emphasized Starbucks’ commitment to the community, stating, “We are very involved and we love to give back to the communities.” Whitney continued on that sentiment, recognizing that her involvement reflects her values, and added, ” just being able to give back to such a great community and showing my kids how to show up and show out for the community around them.” David also echoed the sentiments of his partners about being present. “It’s always about being present in the community and letting people know you’re here to help them one person at a time.”

These heartfelt reflections from Starbucks underline the collective effort to uplift the communities around them, like the FoodShare program and working with Houston Food Bank and Feeding America.
