HFB is coming your way!

SNAP Summer Tour

This summer, Houston Food Bank’s Community Assistance Program (CAP) Mobile Unit will be traveling throughout the Greater Houston area to help individuals apply for federal & state benefit programs. Come by to connect with our team of trained navigators & get application assistance for:

  • SNAP, TANF, CHIP & CHIP Perinatal
  • Healthy Texas Women
  • Medicaid
  • Medicare Savings Program

No appointment needed—just walk in to get the help you need, closer to home. Can’t make it to a stop? You can also locate your closest food distribution site year round using our Find Food Map or schedule a virtual appointment at a time that’s convenient for you.

Celebrate 713 Day with HFB!

Join us Sunday, July 13th from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for our special 713 Day Volunteer Shift, sponsored by Houston Dynamo/Dash and Active Athlete! Those signing up for the 9 am volunteer shift will get an invitation to a post-volunteer celebration of Houston with food, music by DJ Bloom and a special appearance by the Astros’ 2017 & 2022 Championship Trophies!

97.9 The Box will be onsite, and vendors at the celebration include Exotic Pop & Chingona Picosita Candies, and more!

We also have a one-of-a-kind 713 Day shirt available for sale with 100% of the proceeds going back to Houston Food Bank!

Free Rides to What Matters

METRO’s new transit service, the Community Connector, allows you to request short-distance rides within your own neighborhood from a convenient app on your phone. From grocery store trips, to doctor’s appointments & other METRO transit centers, your local Connector has you covered!

The Community Connector program launched in 3rd Ward with all-electric vehicles and has already connected 36,000 riders to essential locations in their neighborhoods. The service zones have now expanded to: 2nd Ward, Near Northside, Downtown, and The Heights. Users can request rides through the Ride Circuit app, available in your phone’s app store. Hours of operation: 7 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Prepare for safety & communication with your loved ones and neighbors in the case of power outages, floods, & hurricanes this season. Remember to have your list of important phone numbers printed and easily accessible, as well as recent photos of your relatives and pets in case you get separated during a disaster event.

Adult Swimming & Fitness: Did you know that Houston Parks offer free in-person swim lessons, water fitness classes & water safety skills training all summer long? Houstonians up to age 99 years old are eligible to enroll! Find your closest site for free summer fun here!

FREE Youth Soccer Club

Soccer for Success is a free, after-school youth league in Houston hosted by the U.S. Soccer Foundation. Its proven to help kids establish healthy habits & develop critical life skills through trained mentors and family engagement activities. Uniforms & equipment are supplied by the program! Register for the Fall 2025 season here!

Pizza Quesadilla

Course Main Course
Servings 1

Ingredients
  

  • 1/4 cup part-skim mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup of spinach
  • 8 pieces of turkey pepperoni
  • 1/2 cup pizza sauce or plain tomato sauce
  • Other pizza ingredients optional

Instructions
 

  • Heat pan or electric skillet to medium high heat.
  • Add tortilla to skillet and warm for about 10 seconds.
  • Top with cheese, spinach, and pepperoni and fold the tortilla in half.
  • Cook 3-5 minutes on each side, until tortilla is lightly browned.
  • Remove from the pan, cut into slices and serve warm.
