Laura
Laura knows what it’s like to not be okay.
Two years ago, she and her husband had just moved to the area. He lost his job, and she wasn’t working. Even thinking about buying groceries was stressful.
But then someone told Laura about Hearts and Hands of Baytown, a partner of the Food Bank. Laura went right away … and was blown away.
“I wasn’t expecting to receive as much food as I did that day,” she says. “It was emotional for me, so I decided to come back and volunteer and give my time.”
True to her word, Laura has continued volunteering ever since. And she encourages neighbors to take advantage of the services, too.
“I understand what it’s like to feel vulnerable and insecure,” she says. “I know what it’s like to be in need. But it’s okay not to be okay. Just understand there’s people here for you, and this is why we do this.”
