Fueling Your Family’s Future: At Houston Food Bank, we believe SNAP is the foundation for your next nutrition milestone; the hearty breakfast for a student, the relief of a snack during a long shift, or the ingredients for a family meal.
Important federal rules have changed. If you are aged 18–64 or have teenagers at home, you may need to take action to keep your benefits.
ARE YOU AFFECTED?
As of November 1, 2025, the following neighbors must now document 20 hours per week (80 hours per month) of work, training, or volunteering to maintain benefits:
- Adults aged 55–64 (previously exempt).
- Parents & Caregivers of children aged 14 and older.
- Veterans and neighbors experiencing homelessness.
- Foster Youth aging out of care (age 24 or younger or in foster care on 18th birthday)

YOUR 3-STEP SUCCESS PLAN

STEP 1: Update Your Address:
The #1 reason neighbors lose benefits is a missing letter. Ensure your mailing address is current at YourTexasBenefits.com or call 2-1-1 today.

STEP 2: Identify Your Letter: Check the mail if you received a letter from:
Health & Human Services: This is for Recertification.
Submit Your renewal packet Immediately.
Workforce Solutions: This is for orientation. You Must attend this one-hour session to stay compliant.

STEP 3: Use the “Volunteer Safety Valve”:
Need to meet your 20-hour requirement?
Volunteering at the Houston Food Bank or a partner agency counts!. We provide the daily logs and verification letters you need to prove your hours to
the state.
