Houston Food Bank to TSA Workers: We Are Here to Provide Assistance – APRIL 4, 2026

HOUSTON … As the partial government shutdown continues, primarily impacting the Department of Homeland Security, Houston Food Bank is encouraging TSA workers in need of support to utilize the food bank’s network of partner agencies across Greater Houston and 18 counties of southeast Texas.

The current shutdown, which began in February 2026, has to-date lasted for 48 days, making it the longest government shutdown in US history.

“Houston Food Bank is a resource for individuals and families in times of disaster and hardship, including events such as government shutdowns, and we want TSA workers to know that they are not alone, that help in the form of food assistance is available to them right in their neighborhood via our network of partner agencies,” says Brian Greene, president/CEO of Houston Food Bank.  “Those in need of food assistance can utilize Houston Food Bank’s easy-to-navigate agency locator map on our website, HoustonFoodBank.org/find-help, to get help right in their neighborhood.”

Houston Food Bank’s agency locator map provides hours, locations and other information for Houston Food Bank member agencies such as food pantries, church pantries and other distribution partners as well as other food- and health-related services.

Since the start of the recent shutdown in early February, Houston Food Bank has held a number of direct food distributions for TSA workers to provide much-needed assistance following many weeks of not receiving paychecks.  During the previous shutdown in fall/winter 2025 which was combined with a disruption to SNAP benefits, Houston Food Bank activated a series of large-scale emergency food assistance distributions to stabilize access to food for SNAP households and federal employees.

“Together, Houston Food Bank and our partner network are stepping in to make sure families impacted by the shutdown have food on the table,” says Greene.

Houston Food Bank nourishes hope for our neighbors facing food insecurity by providing more than 140 million nutritious meals annually through its network of 1,600 community partners. In Houston Food Bank’s 18-county service area, there are nearly 1 million food-insecure individuals.
