This week marks the end of Canstruction 2025. Architects, engineers, designers, contractors and students worked in teams to design and build colossal sculptures using canned and other shelf-stable food as their primary building block. Tape and cardboard serve as nails and cement. The colors and designs on food product labels form the artists’ pallet. “Bricks” come in a variety of sizes from the smallest tuna can to the industrial-size tomato can. Food used to build each structure is donated to Houston Food Bank.
Congratulations to this year’s winners at the annual Canstruction Houston event, and thanks to all the teams that came out and crafted their can-sculptures!
Canstruction is a design/build competition created by the Society for Design Administration to support organizations like Houston Food Bank while showcasing the talents of design and construction industry professionals and the students they mentor. Teams are given just 9 hours to craft their can-sculptures, and as you can see, they used the time well.
