Protein is a highly requested food bank item – that’s why Houston Food Bank is excited that dry black beans will be added to the TEFAP catalogue for food banks to purchase.
The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) provides shelf-stable, nutritious, and American-grown foods to low-income children, seniors, and families facing hunger across the nation. Texas food banks serve as the distribution partners for these commodities, leveraging their infrastructure and network of over 4,000 local partners to reach food-insecure communities in every county.
By adding dry black beans to the catalogue, Houston Food Bank will be able to provide more of this lean, healthy protein source in our distributions. Thank you to USDA for making this possible and responding to our neighbors’ needs!
