Stories of Hunger -Agripina

Agripina

Like so many seniors in our community, Agripina finds it difficult to make ends meet every month. Especially in these challenging times, when the cost of food and other life essentials has spiked. After paying for necessities like rent and utilities, she doesn’t always have enough money left for nutritious food.

Thankfully, Agripina has a community of people who care. You have surrounded her with compassion through your support of the Houston Food Bank. Because you care, she’s receiving the food she needs to maintain a nutritious diet. “I’m a single person with limited income,” Agripina says. “The food given helps me quite a bit.”

Agripina is extremely appreciative of the high-quality items she receives at one of our local partner pantries, especially the fresh produce, meat and other proteins. She has a message of encouragement for other seniors – especially those who may feel embarrassed or afraid to ask for help.

“I would tell them not to be afraid,” Agripina says. “We are elderly people, and many cannot work. Look for places where the Food Bank provides food. Then go and get it because it’s necessary.”

Right now, a growing number of individuals and families across southeast Texas are struggling to have enough food. And as the cost of food staples remains persistently high, many of our neighbors, young and old, are facing hunger for the very first time. That’s why your support of the Houston Food Bank is so impactful and so needed.
