Who: Individuals and groups

When: As needed

Age Requirement: At least 16 years old (Volunteers age 16 & 17 are required to have a completed Minor Waiver Form signed by a parent or guardian)

Dress Code: For your safety, all volunteers must wear closed-toed shoes (no sandals or flip flops) and sleeved shirts; face covering or mask required

Other: Work is typically performed outdoors; be sure to bring bottled water and a hat, gloves and sunscreen; must be able to stand for an extended period of time and safely lift/carry 30- 40 lbs.

Volunteers are often needed in helping us hand out food boxes to our neighbors at events such as a donor sponsored food distribution. These events are hands-on and a great way for you to see firsthand the impact of your service. We invite you to volunteer at an upcoming food distribution site by registering today.

Community Assistance Program (CAP)

When: Once a month

Age Requirement: At least 16 years old

The Community Assistance Program (CAP) with the Houston Food Bank assists families with applying for Texas State Benefits such as SNAP, Medicaid/CHIP, and TANF. The CAP program also distributes food using a “Farmer’s Market” approach to Harris county and surrounding counties as an aid for families to reach self-sufficiency. Our food distribution events are hands-on and a great way for you to see firsthand the impact of your service. We invite you to volunteer at our Spring Branch location by registering today.

Be out in the community to help make change! Food for Change is looking for volunteers to help set up and distribute food in our mobile walk-in pantry; we also need volunteers to do neighbor intake. Shifts available throughout the week and weekend.

Senior Box Distribution

Who: Individuals and Groups up to 10

When: Numerous opportunities are available throughout the month

Age Requirement: At least 13 years old

Help move and load boxes into cars for seniors who pick up food during monthly distributions at area community centers and other locations.

Teachers Aid

When: Numerous opportunities are available throughout the school year

Age Requirement: At least 13 years old

Dress Code: For your safety, all volunteers must wear closed-toed shoes (no sandals or flip flops) and sleeved shirts.

Our Teacher’s Aid program provides school supplies to teachers who work in low income areas, saving teacher’s money and helping their students succeed. Volunteers can choose convenient weekday shifts to help stock and organize items on the shelves and prepare the area for teacher pick-ups. On the weekend shift, volunteers will help check customers in and out, assist them with shopping and stock and organize school supplies.
