Backpack Blast is Houston Food Bank’s annual clay shooting tournament with a powerful purpose. This isn’t just a day of friendly competition, it’s a vital effort to support children who face hunger when school meals aren’t available.

About Backpack Buddy

Filling the Weekend Gap for Food-Insecure Children

One in four children in southeast Texas faces food insecurity, meaning they don’t have consistent access to enough nutritious food. While many of these children rely on free or reduced-price school meals during the week, they often go home to little or no food on weekends and holidays.

Houston Food Bank’s Backpack Buddy Program bridges this critical gap by providing nutritious, child-friendly food for students to take home every Friday during the school year. These weekend food packs ensure that vulnerable children have the nutrition they need to thrive both in and out of the classroom.
