Inside our digestive tract lives the body’s largest community of microbes, known as the Gut Microbiome, which helps support digestion and overall health. Keeping a healthy gut microbiome supports a stronger immune system, improved mood, brain health, and a lower risk of certain conditions such as autoimmune diseases and inflammation. The foods you eat help determine the balance of helpful and potentially harmful microbes in your gut, which is why nutrition plays such a big role in gut health.

Did you know?
Probiotics are beneficial bacteria found in fermented foods, and including probiotic-rich options like yogurt can be a simple way to support gut health every day!
Bulgarian yogurt, famous for its tangy flavor and creamy texture, has been part of Bulgarian culture for centuries. In 1905, Bulgarian microbiologist Stamen Grigorov discovered the bacteria responsible for fermenting this traditional yogurt. The bacteria were later named Lactobacillus bulgaricus, in honor of Bulgaria’s long-standing tradition of yogurt-making.
Yogurt is woven into everyday life in Bulgaria, showing up at breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Families mix it into creamy sauces that coat roasted vegetables or grilled meats, swirl it into warm stews to add a tangy richness, or enjoy it with chunks of ripe fresh fruit and a drizzle of honey for a simple breakfast. In kitchens across the country, this cool, tangy yogurt blends with garlic, fresh herbs, and spices, adding flavor and warmth to everyday dishes. With its distinct flavors and place at the table, Bulgarian yogurt reflects generations of cooking and the flavors that have been passed down through each dish.
