Care Source Bayou Health

The Houston Food Bank is proud to announce our recent grant with CareSource Bayou Health to support our School Markets Program. One in five children in Southeast Texas is considered food insecure, and the School Market program was developed to improve access to nutritional foods to middle and high school students in these vulnerable populations. These children can be difficult to reach, as they outgrow programs like Kids Café and Backpack Buddy, but with School Markets located on the school grounds with set distribution schedules we can turn the tide.

Houston Food Bank School Markets

CareSource Bayou Health invests in initiatives and organizations that make a lasting difference in communities by improving their health and well-being. Thanks to their generous support, Houston Food Bank and our School Markets can do the important work to reach those in need and make sure they have the nutrition and support they need to succeed.

CareSource Bayou Health is a groundbreaking, first-of-its-kind partnership in Texas created by CareSource, a nationally recognized nonprofit Medicaid MCO, and Legacy Community Health, the largest federally qualified health center (FQHC) in the state serving nearly 200,000 community members in the Beaumont and Houston areas with more than 80% Medicaid and charity care community members. Leveraging CareSource’s 30 years of national Medicaid managed care experience with Legacy’s 40 years of experience living and working in the communities of Southeast Texas, the collaboration will elevate the member-provider-payor experience by bringing together the heart and mission of two respected nonprofits with national scale and resources.
