To truly elevate our neighbors and empower them while they experience food insecurity, we manage programs and advocate for policies that address its root causes: income instability, affordable housing and healthcare access. Learn how our work, in collaboration with our extensive network of partners, strengthens communities across the region. Every action you take helps make a meaningful impact.

We constantly strive to improve our programs to better support our neighbors and communities. We have various programs focused on food, economic mobility, seniors and support for children. When neighbors can get enough nutritious foods, they can focus on other areas of life that are less flexible.
For Children
Students thrive when their basic needs are met starting with a full, nutritious meal. When children have consistent access to healthy food, they can focus in the classroom, support their physical and cognitive development, and experience fewer health and behavioral challenges. Our student programs are designed to meet children where they are, providing the resources and support they need to succeed and reach their full potential. By investing in students, we also strengthen their families, creating a ripple effect that improves the well-being of entire households.
For Everyone
We understand anyone can experience food insecurity at any moment. Our network of partners across our service area supports our neighbors where they live or work. When neighbors have an immediate need for support, we know our network of partners will be there.

Community Assistance Program
Food For Change
Food for Change (FFC) is an intervention strategy that aligns with the Houston Food Bank’s ambitious vision: a world that doesn’t need food banks. The work of Food for Change goes beyond emergency food assistance by addressing the root causes of hunger and therefore “shortening the line” at hunger relief charities. This includes strategically layering food assistance with other social services to help individuals achieve their life goals. FFC partners with a collective of community organizations that provide enrollment-based programming focused on two main areas: health initiatives and economic initiatives.

Government Relations focuses on addressing root causes of hunger by advocating for policies that strengthen income stability, affordable housing, and access to health care. By advocating with elected officials, elevating community voices and collaborating during emergencies, the team helps move families beyond short-term food assistance toward long-term stability. This work is essential to breaking the cycle of food insecurity and building systems that allow families and communities to thrive.
Community Engagement
The Community Engagement team bridges the gap between neighbors and local organizations, ensuring every voice helps shape the programs, services, and systems that define our impact. These insights guide Houston Food Bank’s strategy, helping address the root causes of food insecurity and advance our mission: food for better lives. Our most recent initiative focuses on varied communities together at Texans at Every Table.
