On August 5, 2026, The Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD hosted a FoodRx Appreciation Luncheon to celebrate the staff whose dedication has made the program a success. Staff members, nurses, providers, administrators, executives, and CEO Keena Pace gathered to recognize the team members who help connect Harris County residents with nutritious food.
Since launching FoodRx in 2023 through a partnership with Houston Food Bank, The Harris Center has enrolled nearly 3,600 individuals, providing access to healthy foods that support improved health outcomes. Participants can receive food through Houston Food Bank Food for Change Markets, as well as their staff holds twice-monthly onsite distributions at four Harris Center locations, resulting in more than 13,500 visits for nutritious food packages.
The program’s impact extends beyond food access. Participant outcomes show reduced rates of depression and improvements in overall mental well-being and quality of life, highlighting the strong connection between nutrition and health.
Houston Food Bank is proud to partner with The Harris Center and grateful for the staff whose commitment continues to make FoodRx possible. Together, we are helping build a healthier, stronger community for Harris County residents.
