“CORE represents a fundamental evolution in how we serve Southeast Texas. Food distribution remains our core pillar, but true health and stability require addressing the root causes of hunger. Thanks to the extraordinary support from the Houston Philanthropic Community, CORE gives us the physical scale and strategic presence in Northwest Houston to deliver not just food, but opportunity, resilience, and hope.”
— Brian Greene, president & CEO of Houston Food Bank

In the past year, the number of food insecure individuals in Houston Food Bank’s 18 county service area has risen to 1.1M – that’s about a 10% increase since 2024.
As the line for help continues to grow, food insecurity forces families to make impossible choices—between food and rent, utilities, medical care, or education. Two-thirds of food-insecure households have at least one working adult, yet low wages and the fragmented network of 23,000 nonprofits make stability out of reach.
Food security improves brain development, increases education and job opportunities and improves health. Together, we can empower families with food access, resources and support they need to build a stronger future.
