Mrs Baird’s Bread Fighting Texas Hunger
Mrs Baird’s Bread has once again partnered with KHOU-11 for the sixth annual Fighting Texas Hunger campaign. To support the campaign, Mrs Baird’s Bread has been airing campaign spots throughout June on KHOU. These ads raise awareness and encourage donations to Houston Food Bank. Also, as part of the Fighting Texas Hunger campaign, Mrs Baird’s Bread has donated a total of 22,000 loaves of fresh bread to the Houston Food Bank.
This wonderful initiative comes during summer which is a critical time of need. Sadly, 1 in 5 children in Houston Food Bank’s coverage area is food-insecure meaning they lack consistent access to nutritious food to fuel a regularly healthy lifestyle, and they rely on free or reduced meals at school. When school is out for summer, these kids still need nutritious meals to fuel a healthy lifestyle and ensure they return to class ready to learn.
On Wednesday, June 17th , as part of Fighting Texas Hunger campaign, Mrs Baird’s Bread and Kroger employees volunteered at Houston Food Bank to fill 1000 reusable bags with a loaf of Mrs Baird’s Bread & a six pack of powdered sugar donuts, along with a jar of peanut butter & a jar of jelly (compliments of Kroger). Each reusable bag contains a special powered donut treat and enough bread, peanut butter, and jelly to make 12 sandwiches – or 12,000 sandwiches counting all of the 1000 bags together.
Throughout the month of June, Mrs Baird’s will be donating over 175,000 fresh loaves of Mrs Baird’s bread to local food banks in Amarillo, Austin, Corpus Christi, Dallas, East Texas, Fort Worth, Houston, Lubbock, Midland/Odessa, the Rio Grande Valley, San Antonio and Tyler. The public can help by making donations with the QR code on displays in local grocery stores. 100% of donations in the Greater Houston area will go to Houston Food Bank.
