Making Your Voice Heard

Making Your Voice HeardLet’s talk about the upcoming elections… And I know what you’re probably thinking… “Why bother?” “Politicians don’t care about my community.” Well, what would you think if I said you have the power to make them care?

Engaging in your right to vote is critical to seeing any kind of positive changes to your community. Voting is your chance to stand up for what you believe in and the issues you care about like quality education, low property taxes, public safety, housing, and many others. You have the power to make key decisions and to make sure your elected officials are held accountable for the promises they make.

Houston Food Bank (HFB) is invested in elevating voices and spreading the importance of voting. We have partnered with many organizations to increase civic and voter engagement like Houston in Action, Harris County Elections Administration, Mi Familia Vota, and All in Together… just to name a few. We have also hired a new team member to the Government Relations team dedicated to this work! Osvaldo, Civic Engagement Coordinator, will be responsible for all things civic and voter engagement in our 18-county region.

Civic engagement is working to promote and make a difference in the life of one’s community through volunteering, community services, advocacy efforts, voting, etc. Aside from voting, getting involved, civically, in your community is another way to be an active participant and make a positive change where you and your loved ones live.

We have an exciting event coming up, in partnership with All in Together, for all women who are interested in using their voice and life experiences to make change (without political experience), learning how to effectively talk to their local representatives, and options for leadership and civic action.

If you are interested in attending this event on Saturday, September 23rd from 9:30am-1:30pm, please click here.
