The Houston Food Bank recently brought together partners from Montgomery County Food Bank and Texas Children’s Pediatrics for a visit to a Harris Health Food Farmacy. The visit provided an opportunity for partners to learn firsthand how Harris Health operates its Food Farmacy and supports patients enrolled in the FoodRx program. During the visit, partners learned more about the Food Farmacy experience, including how patients access nutritious food, how healthcare and food access are connected, and how the program supports patients managing food insecurity and chronic health conditions. The visit also highlighted the importance of creating accessible, welcoming environments where patients can receive the food and resources they need as part of their overall health journey. By sharing best practices and learning from one another, FoodRx partners can strengthen their programs and identify new ways to support the communities they serve. The visit demonstrated the value of collaboration across healthcare and food access organizations and the meaningful impact that FoodRx and Food Farmacies can have in helping patients access nutritious food while supporting their health and well-being.
