Government Relations UpdateHouston Food Bank represents food banks on the American Commodity Distribution Association (ACDA) board that brings together agriculture, food manufacturers and processors, state agencies and schools to support the distribution of USDA foods to neighbors in need. Together, board members from these various sectors visited the Senate and House Agriculture and Appropriations committees on Capitol Hill advocating for TEFAP and CSFP (Senior Box) priorities in the Farm Bill. The team also participated in the first Food as Medicine Summit with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, where they discussed future plans to fund Food Prescription and Medically Tailored Meals through health insurance reimbursement. HFB’s Civic Engagement Coordinator brought Mi Familia Vota to HFB to register people to vote and our Policy Analyst penned a blog about the link between housing instability and food insecurity. In January, HFB’s Government Relations Manager also finalized a grant agreement which secured funding for HFB’s new building and affiliates.
