A program that promotes environmental stewardship while providing healthy protein to neighbors experiencing hunger.

Hunters for the Hungry is a program through Feeding Texas that fights hunger and promotes environmental stewardship by distributing donated venison to Texans facing hunger. Hunters can drop off legally tagged, field-dressed whitetail or mule deer to participating meat processors. The partner processors prepare the venison for distribution through local food banks, including Houston Food Bank.

Houston Food Bank is partnered with Bay Area Deer Processing, Chappell Hill Sausage Company, Juniors Smokehouse, and Midway Food Market who generously agreed to process donated meat free of charge. Once packaged, the bags are then given to Houston Food Bank and distributed to four  partners for distribution to our neighbors. HOW HUNTERS
CAN HELP

Bringing legally tagged, field-dressed whitetail or mule deer to a participating meat processor at no cost. Due to state and federal health regulations, Hunters for the Hungry is not able to accept donations of feral hog.

NOTE: When purchasing a Texas hunting license, choose the option to donate to Hunters for the Hungry. This gift helps support the meat processing fees.

HOW PROCESSORS
CAN HELP

Prior to each hunting season, partner processors will receive donation receipts, two-pound chub packs for donated venison, and promotional materials. Processors are reimbursed at a market rate that is negotiated in an annual Hunters for the Hungry agreement with participating food banks. Becoming a participating processor by contacting Houston Food Bank at huntersforthehungry@houstonfoodbank.org. Contact us to be a participating processor.
