Director of Community Engagement Toral leads a group discussion on subsidized housing.

On October 17th Houston Food Bank hosted a community conversation on Government Housing. This ‘fishbowl’ event attracted a broad group of Houstonians to discuss the issue of subsidized housing, the problems it addresses, and the possible complications it can bring.

Of course, discussion alone cannot address the issue of unaffordable housing and how it contributes to food insecurity. However, building connections across political and societal divides in the first step toward a consensus that may one day foster the changes needed.

If you’d like to be part of that change, we have upcoming Community Conversations volunteer shifts and Beyond the Box shifts where you can learn more.
