Katy Christian Ministries, a food pantry that has been in partnership with Houston Food Bank since 1986, held ceremonies on julio 15 to officially open their new expanded Food Center at 3506 Porter Road in Katy. The ceremony included a ribbon cutting with the Katy Area Chamber of Commerce and a rope cutting for the Fulshear Regional Chamber for Commerce.
KCM provides food to over 6,000 households (25,000 neighbors) each month and are a Hub partner that assists smaller pantry partners (Spokes) by receiving their food orders from Houston Food Bank and redistributing the food to the spokes on a weekly basis. The new Food Center now has doubled its original 5,000 square foot area with additional warehouse space and a “shopping area” where KCM associates can more easily fulfill orders for their clients. The improvements to the food center will allow KCM to increase the number of residents served from the current level of 60 to 80 cars per day, four days a week to 200 per day five days a week, officials said.
In Feb 2026, KCM was awarded a $70K ARPA-ECOP (Expanding Capacity, Operations, and Partnerships) grant. $40K went to support expansion of their food pantry for improved neighbor access and to purchase refrigeration and warehouse equipment to enhance the neighbor experience and strengthen their service delivery. $30K went to supplement the salaries of their wrap around staff navigators who assist neighbors to access state-funded health and social services, including SNAP, Medicaid, Children’s Medicaid and other services.
