On October 1, Houston Food Bank held Community Conversation on Healthcare, co-hosted by Builders TX, bringing together community members and leaders from across our service area for a meaningful dialogue on healthcare access, affordability, and accountability in Texas.

Builders TX is part of the national, nonpartisan Builders Movement and works to expand participation, strengthen accountability, and put Texans at the center of decision-making by supporting common-ground solutions that reflect the broad will of the people.
The conversation focused on issues that touch families every day, including access to primary and mental health care, price transparency, unfair billing practices, and hospital accountability. Participants shared personal experiences navigating a complex healthcare system and discussed solutions that could help make healthcare more accessible and affordable for Texans.
Critical dialogue and bridging differing perspectives are important first steps toward ensuring families no longer have to make the impossible choice between food and medicine. Throughout the event, participants listened across experiences, reflected on shared concerns, and explored how community voice can shape real solutions.
This event was hosted as part of Houston Food Bank’s new social cohesion initiative, Texans at Every Table. At Houston Food Bank, we believe ending hunger requires more than food—it requires connected communities working together toward shared solutions. That belief is at the heart of Texans at Every Table, which focuses on fostering meaningful conversations and strengthening social connections as a pathway to long-term economic security.
