Client Assistance Program (CAP)

Who: Individuals and Groups up to 10

When: Numerous opportunities are available throughout the month

Age Requirement: At least 16 years old

Dress Code: For your safety, all volunteers must wear closed-toed shoes (no sandals or flip flops) and sleeved shirts.

The Client Assistance Program (CAP) with the Houston Food Bank assists families with applying for Texas State Benefits such as SNAP (formerly known as Food Stamps), Medicaid/CHIP, and TANF. The CAP program also distributes food in a “Farmer’s Market” setting to Harris county and surrounding counties as an added bonus to help families achieve self-sufficiency and shop with dignity. If you would like help, volunteer opportunities are currently available in Fresno, Houston near Spring Branch, and Sugar Land.

Who: Individuals and Groups up to 10

When: Numerous opportunities are available throughout the month

Age Requirement: At least 13 years old

Dress Code: For your safety, all volunteers must wear closed-toed shoes (no sandals or flip flops) and sleeved shirts.

Help move and load boxes into cars for seniors who pick up food during monthly distributions at area community centers and other locations.

Teachers Aid

Where: Teachers Aid Center (8353 East Freeway, Houston, TX 77029)

Who: Individuals and Groups up to 20

When: Numerous opportunities are available throughout the school year

Age Requirement: At least 13 years old

Dress Code: For your safety, all volunteers must wear closed-toed shoes (no sandals or flip flops) and sleeved shirts.

Our Teacher’s Aid program provides school supplies to teachers who work in low income areas, saving teacher’s money and helping their students succeed. Volunteers can choose convenient weekday shifts to help stock and organize items on the shelves and prepare the area for teacher pick-ups. On the weekend shift, volunteers will help check customers in and out, assist them with shopping and stock and organize school supplies.
