School Market at Waller High School Recognized at Waller ISD Board Meeting

At Waller ISD’s board meeting, held on tháng Mười Một 13, Waller High School and Houston Food Bank staff were recognized for the impact of Waller High School’s School Market. The program was highlighted as one of the highest‑serving school markets in the region, regularly providing nutritious food and fresh produce to more than 400 households per distribution.
Houston Food Bank Educational Services Supervisor Vanessa Ortiz commended the program’s reach and community impact, sharing that “among all of our school markets, Waller High School’s serves the most families and neighbors per distribution — a true reflection of their dedication and heart for others.”
Ortiz also recognized the leadership of Kaley Benavides, the volunteers who power each distribution, and Principal Dr. Dean Guerra for fostering a strong culture of service on campus. Ortiz ended her comments with a reflection on what the program represents: “Waller High School’s School Market is more than a place to pick up food; it’s a place where kindness, service and community come together.”
Houston Food Bank’s School Markets are part of a broader effort to strengthen food access for students and families. Across southeast Texas, school markets, including Waller High School’s, are supported in part by American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding, which helps sustain these vital community resources.
