Volunteers are essential in helping us reach more than 250,000 hungry people each month. They give their time and energy to aid fellow Houstonians and Gulf Coast residents. Each year, they contribute more than 100,000 hours of service, which is equivalent to 50 full-time staff members.
Food Bank volunteers represent a cross-section of Texans from the Greater Houston Area, including corporate groups, adult service organizations, college students, retired individuals, civic organizations, church groups, school age children, individuals with community service requirements and other community minded individuals seeking to help others.
The Houston Food Bank provides a meaningful volunteer experience in a positive, safe environment. Volunteers have an opportunity to enhance their social and work skills, gain a sense of accomplishment, fulfill school and civic requirements and meet new friends.
Volunteers make it possible for us to distribute approximately 35 million pounds of food annually to nearly 400 programs, such as food pantries, homeless shelters, safe havens for women and children, and other nonprofit organizations that work directly with the elderly.
It is important that you contact the Houston Food Bank first before coming to volunteer.
