  • Nearly 900,000 people live in poverty in our 18-county area (15% of the population)
  • One in four children in Harris County lives at or below poverty level
  • On any given day, an estimated 35,000 people are hungry in Houston
  • Nearly half of households of people we serve include at least one working adult
  • 55% of the people we serve have a high school degree or higher
  • Hungry families report they often must choose between paying for food and other necessities.
    • Food vs. utilities - nearly 50 % 
    • Food vs. rent or mortgage - 43% 
    • Food vs. medicine or medical care - more than 1/3 
  • Texas and New Mexico have the highest rates of child food insecurity in the nation.
