Disaster Volunteer Positions  
Help with disaster clean up and food distribution 


Volunteer Positions 

Keegan Building Location
2445 North Freeway
Houston, TX 77009

Hours
Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-12 p.m. and 1 p.m. -4 p.m.

Volunteers may work four-hour shifts or work all day.  12-15 volunteers per shift and the minimum age is 16 years old.

Dress code
Jeans, long sleeves, baseball caps, as little jewelry as possible. Most important is to wear comfortable, slip resistant rubber sole shoes (concrete floors are slippery when wet).

Basic duties
Volunteers do anything from chopping vegetables to making sandwiches, washing chicken, panning meals and packaging cases to go into the freezer. Volunteers can also bag powdered milk for the meal boxes. Chef may have other duties.

Saturday Team Leaders
Individual volunteers who enjoy organizing, greeting and overseeing volunteer groups.  Saturday Team Leaders will undergo a thorough training to become familiar with the Houston Food Bank’s operation, policies and mission.
 

Saturday Team Leaders are responsible for:

  • Greeting all volunteers
  • Providing a welcoming atmosphere for volunteers
  • Organizing and managing groups of volunteers
  • Ensuring volunteers have completed all necessary paperwork
  • Assisting warehouse associates with volunteer training and incidents
  • Working in collaboration with the Warehouse Department to assign volunteer groups to various work stations

 Who’s a good fit for being a Saturday Team Leader?  Skills/Abilities:

  • Enjoys working in a fast-paced environment
  • Capable of making decisions and giving direction
  • Comfortable being around diverse volunteer groups
  • Capable of organizing people, groups and talents
  • Gather and organize needed paperwork from every volunteer
  • Comfortable speaking to large groups
  • Excellent people skills and easy to work with
  • Agrees to attend  Saturday Training
  • Can devote working Saturdays from 7:30am – 12:00pm
