13th Annual Empty Bowls Houston
The Empty Bowls Houston committee is pleased to announce that this year’s event, held on Saturday, June 3 raised $104,516.75 for the Houston Food Bank, which will provide 313,550 meals to the hungry in Houston.
In its first 13 years, Empty Bowls Houston has raised $801,629 for the Houston Food Bank! (This equals over 2.4 million meals to the hungry!)
Empty Bowls is an international effort to fight hunger, implemented in Houston to benefit the Houston Food Bank. The unique lunch fundraiser, sponsored by Whole Food Market, is a collaboration between Houston area ceramists, woodturners and artists working in all media and Houston Center for Contemporary Craft. For a minimum $25 donation, attendees receive a simple lunch of soup and bread provided by Whole Foods Market, and then select a bowl from 1,000-plus one-of-a-kind, hand-crafted bowls donated by Houston area ceramists and craft artists. The empty bowls serve as a reminder of all the empty bowls in our community and the world.
Sponsors for the 2017 event included Whole Foods Market, Houston Center for Contemporary Craft, Ceramic Store, Archway Gallery, Katz Coffee, Slow Dough Bread Co., GoodPop, The Mad Potter, LD Systems, Waste Management, Charity Gigs and Edible Houston Magazine.
The Empty Bowls Houston committee is comprised of Renee LeBlanc, event chair; Andre Bally, Virginia Bally, Linda Bousquet, Dorothy Broaddus, Courtney Hunter, Tom Irven, Paula Murphy, Samantha Oldham, Thomas Perry, Marisa Ramon and Suzanne Sippel.
