The Houston Food Bank HungerGame is a competition in which participants come together as a group to collaborate and compete against others in the Houston community. The overall goal of the competition is to produce the most meals possible for the Houston community by volunteering, fundraising, and hosting a food drive. The top four producing teams will compete head-to-head at the end of the season during HFB’s Hunger Action Month. The winning group will be determined and crowned champion for the season.
Who can participate?
Participants may include churches, school groups, families, corporate groups, fraternities/sororities and many others! Participants must be over the age of 15 and groups must have at least 15 members but no more than 30 members to compete during the volunteer activity.
What do you do?
Each group will select one three-hour shift on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday during the HungerGame season (Jul 7 - Sept. 17) to come in and complete a special volunteer activity. Prior to their volunteer date, groups will also host a fundraiser and food drive for the Houston Food Bank. Groups may begin collecting donations any time prior to their volunteer date but no less than 2 weeks prior to the selected volunteer date. Volunteer hours, food items and monetary donations will then all be tallied to determine a group's final meal count. At the end of the HungerGame season, the four groups with the highest meal counts will participate in the final head-to-head competition.
