Solve Senior Hunger Volunteer Shift
Date: Saturday, May 20, 2017 - Saturday, May 20, 2017
Time: 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Location: Houston Food Bank | 535 Portwall Street | Houston, TX 77029
Twenty percent of the Houston Food Bank’s clients are seniors. The rate of food insecurity among seniors age 60 and older has more than doubled since 2001, and today 1 in 12 seniors face food insecurity in the United States.
Join us during Older Americans Month in the fight to #SolveSeniorHunger by helping us package boxes of non-perishables for seniors. The Senior Box Program is a federal initiative designed to improve the health and nutrition of income eligible seniors. Seniors receive a box of food each month, which helps stretch their fixed incomes. Presently, the Houston Food Bank serves over 9,500 seniors through the Senior Box Program by distributing the packaged boxes to over 70 sites in Harris County.
