Join Local Craftspeople and Artists to Support Houston's Seventh Annual Empty Bowls Benefitting the Houston Food Bank May 26, 2012
The Empty Bowls Houston Steering Committee invites artists of all types -- ceramists, woodturners and woodworkers, hot and warm and cold glass artists, fiber artists, mosaicists, polymer clay artists, metalsmiths, painters and sculptors, to create and donate handmade bowls for Empty Bowls Houston 2012, which will be held Saturday, May 26, at the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft.
In 2011 artists contributed more than 1200 bowls. With bowl purchases by the public plus donations from sponsors Whole Foods Market and Ceramic Store, Empty Bowls Houston raised almost $50,000 for the Houston Food Bank. Leveraging its charities and distribution networks, the Food Bank provided 3 nutritious meals for 50,000 people in Houston, Harris County, and surrounding counties whose food bowls would otherwise be empty. All of us on the Steering Committee thank you for your bowls, your time, your creativity, and your generosity.
Clark Kellogg, a woodworker/furniture maker, has challenged himself to create a bowl a day for 100 days, totaling 100 bowls. Five potters have picked up Clark’s challenge to make 100 bowls. Their progress can be followed on the blog at http://100bowls.tumblr.com.
Bowls may be dropped off beginning the first week of May at the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft, 4848 Main Street (Tuesday through Sunday), or the Ceramic Store, 1002 W. 11th Street (Monday through Saturday). Thank you in advance! And in the meantime, to keep up with news and events, follow us on Facebook at Empty Bowls Houston and on Twitter at @EmptyBowlsHOU .
