Thanks to generous gifts from Green Mountain Energy's Sun Club and SolarSPARC programs and NRG, the Houston Food Bank is even more green, with 440 solar panels on our roof. The panels will convert Texas sunshine into power that will lower our utility bills. We'll save the equivalent of three meals per hour for the life of the panels - 30 years. That's a lot of meals for hungry kids, seniors and others.
Our solar panel array covers 5,300 square feet on our roof and generates 96,000 kilowatt hours annually. For perspective, the average house in Houston uses 12,000 kilowatt hours each year.
