Holidays: A Wonderful Time...for Giving
For a fundraiser like me, it truly is the most wonderful time of the year. From Thanksgiving 'til the end of the year, so many people give to the Food Bank, not only financially but with gifts of time and talent as well, and we are truly grateful for every bit of support we receive. This season, there are plenty of ways to give and millions of reasons to as well. In fact, I’d say there are 59 million reasons – one for each nutritious meal we provided last year!
Our wonderful partners at Chevron have again stepped forth to offer a matching gift challenge to the Houston Food Bank, matching every dollar raised in December with $2, up to $100,000 ($300,000, total). Having a match like this means we are able to stretch every donated dollar to provide nine meals instead of the usual three.
It’s also the season for Project Holiday Cheer, the Houston Food Bank’s holiday card program. We have two new card designs this year, thanks to our wonderful and talented Communications team, and are also excited to be offering several new e-card designs. If you’d like to see the new designs or pricing, please visit the Holiday Cards page. I hope you’ll be as pleased with them as I am!
There are also many, many volunteer opportunities this time of year, if you prefer to give the gift of time. In early December, ABC-13’s Share Your Holidays offers a variety of opportunities from answering phone calls for holiday boxes to packing produce bags or boxes of canned goods. There are also plenty of great theme nights to take advantage of throughout the holiday season. To see what’s coming up, see our Events Calendar.
Or, if you have a talent for organizing things, you can donate by hosting a food and fund drive. On our website, we have all the toolsto get you started, including a supply request form, list of most needed items, and customizable printable posters. And we can create a custom donation form for your company or organization for online donations. All you have to do is let us know you’d like one. For more details, you can contact Yolanda Alexander at 713-547-8670.
Of course, if there’s anything specific you’d like to know more about or even if you’d just like to set up a tour of our facility, you can contact any member of our Development staff any time. We’d love to hear from you! From our families to yours, have a very safe and happy holiday season!
