Charity Projects Entertainment Fund (CPEF) awards Houston Food Bank with a grant
The Houston Food Bank (HFB) announced today that it has received $46,128.89 to combat child hunger in Houston and surrounding areas.  The grant will be used to support our Backpack Buddy Club and Kids Cafe programs.

The grant was made possible by Charity Projects Entertainment Fund (CPEF), which was established to raise awareness of poverty across the United States and throughout the world.  With this mission, CPEF teamed up with FOX and “AMERICAN IDOL” to present “IDOL GIVES BACK,” which aired on FOX in April 2007.  “IDOL GIVES BACK” was a two-night special which raised awareness and funds for organizations that focus on providing resources for young people in extreme poverty in the U.S. and Africa.

Call to Action

There are many ways to get involved with the Houston Food Bank; donate time, donate money, advocate, or simply spread the word.
Find out how to take action in leading the fight against hunger...

Farm Bill
We need your help by contacting your Members of Congress as soon as possible and urging them to quickly pass a final Farm Bill with a strong nutrition title.  A strong support from Congress will increase the likelihood of the President signing it.

Please call your Members of Congress and thank them for the work done until now but urge them to vote for the Farm Bill Conference Agreement when it goes to the House and Senate floors for votes this Wednesday May 14.

Contacting your Members of Congress is easy, just follow these steps:

1. Call: a toll free line to the U.S. Capitol (1-800-826-9624) has been made available by AARP.  Or dial numbers on the attached chart.

2. Go to www.HungerActionCenter.org and click on “Take Action”.

3. Ask your Republican House Members to sign the letter being circulated by Representative Jim Walsh (R-NY).

The people we serve can’t wait any longer; we must take action now!
