Repack Room                            Minimum age of 8
The Houston Food Bank receives donations of items such as diapers, beans and rice in very large quantities. Volunteers are needed to repack bulk items into smaller quantities. Other duties include: pre-sorting, re-labeling products and preparing for special events.

Pulling Orders                           Minimum age of 16
Houston Food Bank member agencies place orders for items that they need in order to serve their clients. Volunteers are needed to fill these orders from the warehouse inventory. Some heavy lifting may be required.

Family Boxes                           Minimum age of 8
Volunteers are needed to box pre-selected food items to complete a box of groceries to feed a family of four for 2-3 days.  The boxes are put together following the USDA Food Guide Pyramid and include a booklet with menus and recipes.

Special Event Volunteer          All ages
Volunteers are needed to serve as Houston Food Bank representatives for a variety of special events including food drives, phone banks, concerts, and sporting events. Duties may include setting up, collecting, repacking and loading food items and donations.

Office & Clerical
Volunteers are occasionally needed to assist with office, clerical and computer tasks. Duties include filing, data entry, typing, preparing mailings and copying. Computer experience in Excel or Microsoft Word is useful.
