Houston Food Bank’s Court Appointed Community Service Program
Individuals who receive a court order to perform community service may complete their hours at Houston Food Bank provided they are not charged with, or convicted of, assault.
1. Does the Houston Food Bank Accept Out of State Court/Probation Appointed Volunteers? Yes. All court appointed volunteers must provide documentation containing the following
• Court and County assigning community service hours
• Number of hours to be performed
• Reason for court appointed community service
No volunteer will be accepted without the required documentation.
2. Is there an age limit for Court Appointed Volunteers? No. We accept all court appointed volunteers . Volunteers under the age of 18 must have a parent or legal guardian accompany them during their volunteer time.
3. What will I do as a Houston Food Bank Court Appointed Volunteer? Your volunteer area will be assigned on a daily/shift basis but may include:
- Housekeeping - Texans Café - Product Recovery Area
- Warehouse - Facilities - Other Departments as needed
4. Are walk-in volunteers accepted? No. All Court Appointed volunteers must complete a required orientation and create a volunteer schedule.
5. Do Minor CAV’s have to volunteer with an adult? Volunteers 15 and under must be accompanied by an adult (parent or legal guardian) and fully participate with them during their volunteer shift. Volunteers between the ages 16 and 17 must have an adult or legal guardian accompany them to orientation only.
6. When Can Court Appointed Volunteers work? Court Appointed Volunteers can work during the following times:
Volunteers must work the entire shift. Walk-in volunteers will not be accepted.
7. How many shifts and days per week can a Court Appointed Volunteer work? Court Appointed Volunteers can work as many days/shifts as desired. All Court Appointed Volunteers must schedule their volunteer shifts in advance.
Monday and Wednesday
7:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 7:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Saturday
7:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

8. When can potential volunteers attend orientation? Court Appointed Volunteer orientations are conducted on the 1st and 2nd Tuesday of the month from 3:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. at our Portwall Warehouse. The Portwall Warehouse is located at 535 Portwall St. Houston, TX. 77029.
9. What do I bring to orientation? Please bring all court paperwork and a photo ID. If your court is in Harris County please provide your SPN ID card also.
10. What should I wear to orientation? Court Appointed volunteers should wear casual attire (such as jeans, blouse/shirt and closed toes shoes).
11. Can I donate food or money in lieu of community service hours? No. The Houston Food Bank will only accept volunteer hours to satisfy your community service court order.
12. Can I bring my friend or family member to volunteer with me? No. Only individuals that are enrolled in the Community Service Program can volunteer with you.
